Google has had the Google One VPN for quite a while now, but it was only usable on phones, not computers. Recently, however, Google has made the update to Windows and Mac computers. The service offers the VPN to Google One 2tb+ storage subscribers, starting at $9.99 monthly.

The VPN, however, does have its issues. The service only allows you to have an IP in your region which ruins a whole use case for VPNs. You are assigned a random IP in your general area upon starting the VPN. The VPN is available on Windows 10+ computers that are not 32-bit or have arm processors. On Mac, you must be on at least macOS Big Sur with support for x86 and ARM users.

While it’s nice to see Google finally arriving in the VPN space, many downfalls tell me it’s better to stick to whatever you use now. Find out more about the Google One VPN here.
